The cars of the future will detect your emotional state

Kia will present at CES 2019 a pioneering technology based on artificial intelligence

A new edition of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), in La Vegas, is being held from January 8 to 11. As has been repeated in recent years, some automotive brands will also attend the most important event in the sector to showcase their latest innovations. And Kia will be one of them. The Korean firm will present a new technology aimed at the future era of “emotional driving”.

The objective is to improve the mobility experience of people. For this, the Asian company has created the system of adaptive emotional driving in real time (Real-time Emotion Adaptive Driving, READ), in collaboration with the affective computing group of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

This pioneering technology can optimize and personalize the interior space of the vehicle analyzing the emotional state of people in real time through artificial intelligence based on the recognition of biosignals. To do this, it monitors the emotional state of the driver and adapts the interior environment of the vehicle to create a more pleasant experience.

“The READ system will allow continuous communication between drivers and vehicles through the non-spoken language of ’emotional feeling’, thus facilitating a space adapted to the senses for drivers in real time,” says Albert Biermann, President and Head of the Research and Development Division of Kia Motors.
